Mission

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you,” reads the well-known Great Commission from Matthew 28:19–20. Jesus calls us to proclaim the Gospel, to show love, and to help those in need (see Matthew 25:35; 1 John 3:17).

This is why Pastor Wolfgang Wegert founded the Missions Ministry Arche. In cooperation with our missionary friends and partner churches, we preach Christ and provide humanitarian aid around the world.

Where We Serve

Ukraine

Ukraine is the second-largest country in Europe and, due to the ongoing war, one of the poorest. Russia’s invasion in 2022 created a humanitarian crisis of immense scale. Millions have fled, families have been torn apart, and countless people have lost their homes, livelihoods, and even loved ones.

Refuge in
Partner Churches

Arche’s Ukrainian partner churches serve hundreds of often traumatized refugees every week by providing food, shelter, and pastoral care. In central and eastern Ukraine, regular schooling has been severely disrupted for years. Churches offer childcare and supplemental education programs.

Support for
Those in Need

Together with its partners, Arche carries out extensive relief efforts, providing clothing, food, hygiene products, and other essential supplies. It also supports rehabilitation centers, homeless outreach, hospitals, ministries to war widows and prisoners, refugee shelters for internally displaced persons, and a nursing home that had to be relocated from eastern to western Ukraine due to the war.

India

India is the most populous country in the world, with a population of around 1.48 billion people. Although the constitution guarantees freedom of religion and the caste system has officially been abolished, traditional social structures still strongly influence social life in many parts of the country. From birth, people are assigned to a caste. Those referred to as “untouchables” continue to face discrimination and, in some cases, persecution and violence from members of higher castes.

India also faces major social inequalities. Especially in rural areas, many people are too poor to afford adequate nutrition. Numerous farming families struggle with debt, leading to thousands of suicides each year. The challenges are also immense in the country’s large cities. A significant portion of the population lives without legal security in unofficial slum settlements. Child mortality remains high by international standards. Every year, around 700,000 children die before the age of five, often due to malnutrition and a lack of access to basic necessities and medical care.

For Christians in particular, the situation in many parts of India is increasingly difficult. The country ranks high on international religious freedom persecution indexes. So-called anti-conversion laws put Christians at risk of being falsely accused or arrested. In this climate, extremist Hindus have at times used violence against Christians, leading to attacks, displacement, and even killings. Converts from Hindu backgrounds are especially vulnerable. They are under constant pressure to return to Hinduism and need prayer and support, as the police often fail to intervene in cases of violence.

Care & Support
for Children from Slum Communities

Due to increasing pressure from the Hindu-led government, the Christian children’s homes in Chennai, India, supported by Arche, had to close. Instead, after-school programs for children are now being offered. There, children gather in the afternoons for free tutoring, a meal, and fellowship provided by local partner churches.

A special highlight is the annual Christmas celebration, during which a clear and child-friendly proclamation of the gospel still seems possible for the time being, even among children from non-Christian backgrounds.

Myanmar

Myanmar (Burma) has been ruled for decades by a repressive military regime, which seized power again in a coup in 2021. The country suffers from severe human rights violations, authoritarian rule, and a brutal civil war. Christians, especially in conflict regions, face discrimination and persecution by the Buddhist majority.

The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. Many people have been displaced, access to education and healthcare is limited, and many children are traumatized and living in poverty.

Orphanage and
Daycare Centers

A Christian children’s home in central Myanmar cares for neglected children, often affected by loss of parents, crime, or addiction. They receive meals, education, and psychological support in a caring, loving environment while also being introduced to the gospel. Arche also supports daycare programs for neglected children in slum areas.

Bible School

A Bible school trains pastors and Sunday school teachers who plant and strengthen churches in remote areas, which is also made possible through the support of Arche Church and Mission.

School and
Boarding Program

Arche’s partners in Myanmar have established a school where hundreds of children from nearby slum communities receive a quality education and hope for a better future. In addition, a boarding school allows children from war-torn regions to attend school, since schools in some of these areas have been closed for years. The children also can attend church services and Sunday school.

Israel

Since the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, its population has lived under the tensions of the Middle East conflict, though Israel’s history itself begins in the Bible. Due to their history, both Jews and Arabs lay claim to the land. When the United Nations proposed dividing the territory into a Jewish and an Arab state, the Arab side rejected the plan, which led to ongoing attacks and wars. To this day, lasting peace remains elusive.

Israel currently has around 10 million inhabitants, approximately 7.8 million Jews and 2.2 million Arabs. Although their number is declining, about 140,000 to 150,000 Holocaust survivors still live in the country. Arche places special emphasis on supporting these individuals and their families.

Grace & Truth
Church

Near Tel Aviv, Arche partners with the church Grace & Truth, led by Pastor David Zadok. Together, they carry out missionary initiatives and humanitarian work. This includes regular outreach to Holocaust survivors, as well as ministry among students and soldiers. Disadvantaged children are also supported in a local special-needs school.

Additionally, various evangelistic efforts are promoted, including literature, teaching videos, and audio resources. These aim to communicate the significance of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, to the people of the Holy Land. Arche supports a pastor who has translated the Bible into modern Hebrew and is currently engaged in further writing projects to strengthen Christian leaders and pastors in Israel.

Russia

Russia, covering approximately 17.1 million square kilometers, is the largest country in the world. Around 143.5 million people live there, making it the most populous country in Europe and ninth worldwide. It is rich in natural resources, including the world’s largest reserves of natural gas.

However, the country faces significant economic and social challenges, including structural issues, regional disparities, international sanctions, and the ongoing consequences of the war in Ukraine since 2022. These factors affect prices, income, and employment, leaving a notable portion of the population living below the poverty line.

Support for
Those in Need

Arche’s work with Russian partners has become more difficult under current conditions but, nevertheless, continues their support how they can. This includes church planting, social ministries, and support for people struggling with addiction, poverty, single parenthood, disabilities, and other hardships. Local churches distribute meals, clothing, and medicine while sharing the gospel.

Thailand

Thailand has a population of around 71–72 million people, making it one of the 20 most populous countries in the world. Approximately 93–94% of the population is Buddhist, 5–6% Muslim, and less than 1% Christian.

Tourism is one of the country’s most important industries. Bangkok is among the most visited cities in the world. At the same time, Thailand faces significant social challenges. Estimates suggest that between 200,000 and more than 300,000 people are involved in prostitution, including tens of thousands of minors. Many also come from poorer neighboring countries. Although prostitution is officially illegal, it is often tolerated.

Thailand is also considered a destination country for human trafficking. Migrant workers are often affected by exploitation, forced labor, and human rights violations, for which government authorities are repeatedly criticized.

Mission Among
Unreached Peoples

Arche supports two missionary couples working in remote provinces without prior Christian presence. As teachers, they offer English classes while sharing the gospel. With local believers, they organize home groups, children’s programs, and worship services. By God’s grace, churches have already been established in two locations. There, the missionary partners share the good news of Jesus Christ, the Savior, and serve the local communities through humanitarian aid and educational projects.

Argentina

Argentina is the second-largest country in South America and has a population of around 46 million people. Among them are 35 to 40 indigenous peoples, including the Mbya Guaraní, who mainly live in the province of Misiones Province in the northeastern part of the country. Originally, they lived as hunters and gatherers in the rainforest while also practicing agriculture.

Due to various factors, including colonization and the deforestation of the rainforest, their living conditions have worsened considerably. Poverty, disease, and limited access to education are widespread. Their situation is especially difficult in Argentina, where they mostly live in isolated communities. Around 30% of the Mbya Guaraní in Misiones are illiterate, compared to a national average of 2.7%. In addition, 16.5% of people between the ages of 5 and 29 have never attended school or any other educational institution.

Mission in the
Rainforest

The Arche Mission supports missionary Olaf Smolich and his team. For many years, they have been serving in the rainforests of northeastern Argentina, reaching the Guaraní-Mbya people with the gospel. With the support of the Arche Mission, a Bible school was established in one of the Guaraní-Mbya villages. Under the guidance of the missionary team, it is led by a local cacique (tribal chief).

Bible Translation for the Guaraní-Mbya

Under the leadership of missionary Jorge Kelm and with the support of the Arche Mission, a Bible translation into the Mbya-Guaraní language is also underway. The New Testament has already been completed and published. Jorge is currently working together with a team of local Guaraní Christians on the translation of the Old Testament.

Diego Thompson
School

The Scottish Baptist pastor and teacher Diego Thompson traveled throughout Argentina and other South American countries during the first half of the nineteenth century. In addition to his evangelistic preaching ministry and the distribution of the Holy Scriptures throughout the country, he was also a Christian educator who played a major role in shaping and modernizing Argentina’s educational system based on Christian values.

The school in Gobernador Virasoro, in the province of Corrientes Province, was named after him by our Christian partners. There, several hundred students receive a quality education, supported in part by the Arche Mission. The school stands out from the public education system, which struggles with teacher shortages, underfunding, and lower educational standards.

At the same time, the Arche Mission also supports the Evangelical Reformed church “Luz a las Naciones,” led by Pastor Alfredo Ramos, who has been praying for its own church building for some time now.

Bolivia

Bolivia, officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is one of the poorer countries in South America. Around 12.4 million people live there. The country officially recognizes 36 ethnic groups. Approximately 40% of the population belongs to indigenous peoples such as the Quechua, Aymara, Chiquitano, and Guaraní, contributing to Bolivia’s rich cultural diversity.

Bolivia regularly experiences social and political unrest, which can quickly escalate into violent clashes. In addition, the country remains an important transit and production hub for cocaine, contributing to higher crime rates and ongoing security problems.

Fundacion
Cristiana

For several years, the Arche Mission has been working together with the church movement Fundacion Cristiana. In La Paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia, several churches are engaged in missionary and humanitarian work among children and young people in schools, churches, on the streets and public squares, in prisons, and in villages around Lake Titicaca.

The school led by Arche’s ministry partners especially needs prayer. There, hundreds of students receive a solid education while also learning about the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their regular ministries also include operating a Christian radio station with a 24-hour program, as well as serving through local church ministry. The Arche Mission supports them.

Children's Ministry
and Education

Another blessed ministry is children’s evangelism in the Andes. Started by the missionary family Juan and Anouschka Soza, their teams regularly organize evangelistic outreach programs for children in remote mountain villages outside La Paz. God has opened doors for them and their coworkers to teach English and Christian education at more than a dozen public schools, reaching hundreds of students.

Many of these children do not come from stable homes and have already experienced domestic violence or abuse. Through the love and care shown by the Christians, many open their hearts to Jesus Christ and to the personal support of the Christian teachers.

In addition, the teams are also involved in street ministry, prison ministry, and rehabilitation outreach in La Paz.

Zambia

Zambia is located in southern Africa and has a population of around 20 million people. Nearly half of the population is younger than 15 years old, making Zambia one of the countries with the fastest population growth rates.

A major challenge is the high HIV infection rate. As a result, hundreds of thousands of children have become orphans and grow up with limited access to basic necessities while living with relatives, foster families, or in orphanages. Due to widespread poverty, child labor among children between the ages of 6 and 14 is especially common in rural areas. As a result, many children do not attend school regularly. Even when they do attend classes, it is not uncommon for public school classrooms to have up to 70 students, which negatively affects the quality of education.

Support for
Orphans

In northern Zambia, the Arche Mission supports a Christian school. Most of the 350 students are orphans who live in poor conditions with grandparents or foster families in nearby slum communities. Church services are held regularly, and needy families receive food assistance.

Together with other partners, the Arche Mission also supports a children’s home with an attached school in the capital city, along with several other projects. More than 120 children live there together with Christian house mothers and hear about Jesus through daily devotions.

Kabwata
Baptist Church

Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka is led by Pastor Conrad Mbewe and a ministry team. In partnership with the Arche Mission, the church carries out special programs for underprivileged children. In addition to humanitarian aid, these ministries include education through a church-run school, as well as cooperation with and regular visits to an SOS Children’s Village.

The ministry is also involved in planting and supporting churches throughout Zambia and in other African countries.

Rwanda

Rwanda is located in central East Africa, near the equator. It is the most densely populated country in Africa and became known worldwide in the 1990s because of a horrific genocide. Within just three months, around one million people were murdered. Approximately 75% of the smaller ethnic group lost their lives. This tragic past has left deep wounds that are still felt today despite ongoing efforts toward reconciliation.

Church Planting

In partnership with the African church Kabwata Baptist Church in Zambia, Arche supports church planting projects in the capital city Kigali and other regions of the country. In recent times, pressure and restrictions on evangelical churches have increased significantly. Currently, believers can only gather online, as in-person meetings risk imprisonment. It is Arche’s prayer that its partners will retain official recognition as churches, remain strong in their faith despite persecution, and that government policies may change so that they can once again gather in person for worship.

Brazil

Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest country in the world by area. With a population of around 212 million people, it is also one of the most populous countries in the world. The population is highly diverse, consisting of descendants of Portuguese settlers, people of African descent, numerous immigrant communities from Europe and Asia, as well as indigenous peoples.

Although education is compulsory, many public schools are considered underfunded and of poor quality, while private schools are mainly accessible to wealthier families. The public healthcare system also suffers from chronic underfunding and major regional differences in quality. In addition, Brazil struggles with high crime rates, spiritism, widespread poverty, numerous favelas, child labor, and human trafficking.

300
with Gideon

For 40 years, the married couple Aldino and Maja Krüger led the mission organization 300 with Gideon and were especially dedicated to serving children and teenagers from difficult backgrounds. Their work has now been taken over by Daniel and Adriana Fich. The Arche Mission supports the children’s home in Lajeado as well as various church and social ministries.

Several outreach projects are carried out in the poorer areas of the city. For example, needy families receive food packages. At the same time, the Christians offer prayer and invite them to church services and other church activities. Another important focus is ministry among neglected children from the slums and local communities. Every Sunday, several hundred children attend Sunday school at the different locations of the partner church, where they receive a nutritious meal following a Christian children’s program.

During more than 40 years of ministry, Aldino Krüger and his pastoral team were able to establish 45 churches throughout the Lajeado region.

Mission and
Church Planting

In southern Brazil, the Arche Mission has been working together with missionary Gerhard Janocha for many years. Gerhard has served primarily among people of German descent living in the region. A central focus of his ministry is the proclamation of the biblical gospel of God’s sovereign grace in salvation through Jesus Christ.

Out of this ministry, the Evangelical Reformed Church Arca (“Arche”) was founded in 2024 in Santa Rosa. The church is led by Gerhard together with Jonatas and Jeferson Wiede. While the younger brothers mainly focus on building up the local congregation, Gerhard primarily serves as an evangelist in various South American countries. There, he holds evangelistic meetings in public squares and local churches.

In addition, German-language radio programs are broadcast, including sermons by Pastors Christian and Wolfgang Wegert. The ministry also includes practical support for poor and sick families, as well as the regular “Hope for Children” outreach organized by the Arche Mission.

Germany

Germany was the birthplace of the Protestant Reformation, yet little of that spiritual legacy remains today. While nearly half of the population still identifies with the Christian or Catholic state church, this identification is often rooted more in tradition than in personal conviction. The number of people who regularly attend worship services is significantly lower than the number of official State church members. A vibrant, living faith in the gospel has largely been lost.

With a population of approximately 83.6 million, Germany is one of the most densely populated nations in Europe and is widely regarded as a country shaped by immigration. As a result, other religions have gained greater prominence, particularly Islam.

Church Planting

The Arche Mission is deeply committed to spreading the saving message of Jesus Christ throughout its home country. In addition to Arche Hamburg, two further churches have been planted in Germany: Arche Stade and Arche Hannover. There are also two associated churches: Hoffnungskirche in Sankt Augustin and the Biblical Reformed Church in Görlitz.

Pastor's College

To equip young men for pastoral ministry and to strengthen pastors in their calling, the Pastors College was established. Each year, the program is delivered through four extended weekend modules. These courses are firmly grounded in Scripture and sound theology and are taught by both Arche pastors and respected international instructors, including Jeff Purswell (Sovereign Grace Pastors College), Dr. Thomas Schreiner (The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary), and Dr. Ray Van Neste (Ryan Center for Biblical Studies).
